There are no strangers at St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church. Step inside and join a group of vibrant worshippers from all walks of life.
Service Times
Our Sunday service times are 8:00am and 10:30am with the celebration of the Hoy Eucharist every Sunday.
8:00am is a solemn worship service without music. At this service join the company of a small group of worshippers and delight in the calm and loving presence of God.
10:30am is a liturgically beautiful worship with choral music praising God. Children and youth programming is available at this service. Join for an engaing time of fellowship at the coffee hour right after this service.
Child care
Child care is available during the 10:30am service. Drop off your infant at the Nursery which is along the left hallway of the nave (main worshipping space). The Nursery is managed by trained adult volunteers.
Parking
The church has a parking lot to the east of the church building. Enter into the parking lot gage by driving east on 61st St (it’s a one-way street on 61st and S. Michigan).
What to expect?
If coming into the church building via the parking lot, walk accross the parish hall to the west of the building into the main worshipping space (you’ll find folks happy to direct you).
Once you are in the church…
…expect to be greeted warmly by our ushers who will hand you the service bulletin. You will be able to follow and participate in the entire service with the service bulletin.
…expect to participate in a liturgically rich service with symbols and rites. Don’t worry if you don’t understand some of these liturgical ceremonies. After the service, you can always ask the priest to learn more.
…expect to deepen your relationship with God. At the 8:00am service you will have the opportunity to ‘be still and know’ of the presence of God. At the 10:30am the choir will help you sing and lift your spirit into the presence of God.
…expect to hear an 10-12 minute sermon, diving deep into the Bible, and hearing God’s word for our lives
…expect a community that believes in the power of prayer. Don’ t be suprised to see members walk up to the altar for prayer during the liturgical ‘Prayers of the People’
…expect to be delighted by the diverse backgrounds of people. St. Edmund’s has a long-standing cherished African-American tradition but our community includes Christians from all races, ethnicties, and nations. We are also diverse in terms of our faith stories, professions, age groups, and economic backgrounds.
…expect children to have full participation in the life of the church and in its worship (choir, reading the scripture, acolytes). Children and youth also have the opportunity to participate in programming for their age group for 45 minutes right after the 10:30am service.
…expect to fall in love with this community and with God.
